Piku, also known as "The Beast", is the protagonist of the story mode of Pikuniku. He is also one of two protagonists (alongside Niku) of the co-op mode.
General[]
Piku is a red bean creature with two black eyes and two relatively long legs. He can walk, jump, and swim, as well as retract his legs into his body to quickly roll on land or sink in water. Piku can also kick, which is more often useful for moving objects around than for attacking other characters. Piku's legs are extendable, seen in their ability to grapple on hooks.
Piku can alter his appearance, and sometimes abilities, by wearing various hats, such as the X-Ray Glasses, Pencil Hat, and Flower Hat. These hats are received from other characters either as gifts or through purchase. Some hats grant abilities that are necessary to complete the game, while others are simply for fun. There's a quest to give Piku some arms, in case you thought he was missing something.
Personality[]
Piku is, overall, a kind and helpful character. Over the course of the game, he helps anyone they encounter who is in need of help, usually for no reward. When he makes a mistake, he sets out to fix it. Other characters feel comfortable trusting Piku even after only a few minutes of meeting them.
As Piku is a player-controlled character, the player can make him behave rudely if so desired. This includes kicking other characters, annoying them, or destroying Sam the Slime's potteries, which saddens the slime. This does not have any ultimate effect on character interactions, however. The most notable instance of Piku being rude in the story is when he kicks the spider across the chasm near the mountain village, and even then, this is done not out of malice, but to help fix the village's bridge.
Piku is on bad terms with Mr. Sunshine and his robots, as Piku helps the The Rebels foil Mr. Sunshine's plans. After Piku defeats Mr. Sunshine, they are on good terms with the robots, who no longer have to obey their boss. Piku is also disliked by the store owner in the valley, who has a grudge against them simply for not truly being a beast, thus ruining the store owner's plans of selling beast-themed merchandise.
Story[]
Before the events of the game, Piku had been sleeping in a cave near the valley, for an unknown period of time. The nearby villagers were aware that some sort of creature inhabited the cave, but believed it to be a dangerous beast. Upon waking up, Piku meets the Ghost, who greets him and guides him out of the cave after teaching him how to kick things and use mushrooms to bounce.
Piku ventures to the nearby village, accidentally breaking the bridge along the way. Once he arrives, the villagers react with fear at the sight of "The Beast". They capture Piku in a cage, placed in the center of town, where they quickly realize he is not much of a threat at all, and let him go, as long as he fixes the broken bridge. When Piku goes over to the broken bridge, a spider is found in the tree. Piku kicks the spider at the other part of the broken bridge and the spider's web fixed the bridge. The spider is unhappy at being kicked and said "DON'T DO THAT EVER AGAIN!". Piku walks past the fixed bridge, back to the village. A villager comes up and thanks you for fixing it. After, Piku is told the painter is having trouble and to visit them. When Piku goes to the painter's house, the painter is exhausted and said they weren't a good painter, because the scarecrow's face was supposed to scare the birds but the birds aren't fazed by it. As well as this, the painter lost their pencil and asks Piku to find it in the basement. After stacking a box and clicking the button to get another on top, he jumps up and get the pencil top. After going back and putting it on their head, Piku can now draw a new scarecrow, which, as long as it isn't empty, will scare birds. He then travel to a Forest village, and meets a leaf. She requests him to go find her friend, which is stuck in a tree. After he does that, he rescues another one of their friends. He teams up with them, and they say that they are The Rebels. After that, Piku is requested to beat the robot out of the village. He has to test his worthiness, so he has to beat the King of The Dancefloor. After he does so, he uses explosive pinecones to destroy the robot. during the celebration, a villager from the valley enters "El Bunko". he says that even though Mr. sunshine is giving them "Free" money in exchange for corn, they have so much money and don't know what to do with it. plus, the villager really likes eating corn. Piku obtains the water hat from one of the rebels, and exits the forest to the swamp. he then grows the platform flower and enters a tunnel where he must do puzzles to proceed to the valley. he is launched to the surface at the end, and finds that it is raining. once again, he kicks the robot to start the fight, but this one is different. Piku must run through a course quickly, to avoid being inhaled by the robot. after finishing it, Piku retreats into a cave and the rebels smash the robot with a laser with a kite attached (note: the button on the laser is the same as the ones in puzzles, including co-op mode). during the second celebration, an alarm goes off because of an intruder. the intruder was a worm who also needed help. the worms had gotten water from the lake, but apparently, the water disappeared. Piku enters a door that was revealed by the alarm, and does an electricity puzzle to activate the metro. they travel to the lake (note: if you travel to the valley, kick the wall open to exit into the well). they find that the lake bed is empty. as they walk through the empty lake, a tumbleweed can be seen rolling by. Mr. sunshine had built a massive dam to gather water from the lake. the worm tells them to enter the old house to enter the mines, but lost the key. Piku then plays a game of "Dig Piku" to obtain the key. he enters the house, and takes the elevator down. he and the rebels must solve puzzles to get to the worm cave. when they get there, the mother worm says that they got water from the pipe overhead, but the water disappeared. apparently a worm named Ernie entered a tunnel in search of water. Piku enters this and finds Ernie, bloated and green, next to chemical water. he must perform a series of puzzles of puzzles to bring Ernie to the worm cave. the rebels show him that worms can inflate like balloons, and Piku exits through a minecart to fight the giant robot. he must go from platform to platform, dodging the robot's water sprays. after 3-5 shots, the robot retreats to get more water. Piku must go underwater and clog the straw, damaging the robot. this must be done three times to destroy it. Piku then is captured by Mr. sunshine, and has to go through his headquarters to fight a ray robot, he then has to fight Mr. sunshine in a final battle where Mr. sunshine shoots corn. the volcano erupts, sending Mr. sunshine and Piku up. Piku kicks Mr. sunshine to space, and the rebels shut down the volcano. in the aftermath, Piku wakes up in a box, and it tells him his score. everything goes black, and Piku wakes up back in the cave. after he exits, Ernie is showering, the lake is full, the robots are nice, and there is popcorn everywhere.
